Man in hit and run was DUI, police say
A Rancho Cucamonga man who fled after hitting a vehicle on Thursday had been drinking and driving, sheriff’s officials said.
Derrick Price, 33, is being held at West Valley Detention Center on suspicion of felony drunken driving and hit and run.
Members of the Police Department’s Multiple Enforcement Team witnessed the 11 a.m. collision in the 6400 block of Hellman Avenue, but when they went to help, Price allegedly drove away.
He was taken into custody a few blocks down the street.
No one was injured in the accident.

Officers to target unsafe motorcyclists
The Ontario Police Department will conduct a special traffic enforcement detail Sunday aimed at motorcycle riders.
Officers will patrol areas in the city popular with motorcycle riders and where crashes have occurred, according to an Ontario police news release.
Police will look for violations made by motorcyclists and by motorists who put motorcycle riders in danger.
Between October 2007 and October 2009, two motorcyclists were killed in Ontario, according to the news release. Police officials urge motorists to be alert and keep an eye out for motorcycles, especially in turns and while changing lanes.
Funding for this program is provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

Police plan DUI, drivers license checkpoint
Pomona police officers will conduct a traffic safety, DUI/ drivers license checkpoint tonight.
The checkpoint will be from 9 tonight to 3 a.m. Sunday, according to a Pomona police news release.
Officers will also conduct a citywide DUI saturation patrol.
Vehicles will be checked for motorists who are under the influence or driving without a valid license.
Funding for the operation is provided through a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
Members of the public are asked to call 9-1-1 if they see a suspected impaired driver.
